The name “Queen Elizabeth National Park” resulted after a visit to this Park by Queen of England “Queen Elizabeth ii”. And all intentions of the naming were to commemorate the Queen’s great visit to the Park.

Furthermore, the park characterized by different ecosystems. Which include tropical rain forests, savannah, grasslands, hilly areas, bogs, shrubs, montane forests. Some parts covered with bamboo forests and water swampy areas mostly along the shores of Kazinga Channel.

How to get there?

The best way of accessing Uganda in the Southwestern particularly traveling from Kampala by road. Kampala- Masaka-Mbarara highway the best-recommended route including the en-route stopover at the equator in Kayabwe before reaching Masaka town.

Is one of the few parks in Uganda where chimpanzee trekking is done. The chimpanzees were habituated a few years ago and the population is said to be approximately 19 chimpanzees which were trained to be close to humans.  Not only chimpanzee but the park is a home to over other 6 primates species including the red tailed monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys and olive baboons. These primates can be easily be seen while in the Gorge Chimpanzee trekking Chimpanzee trekking in Kyambura gorge can be done all year round though the best time is during the dry season in the months of June, July, August, September, December, January and February because during this period there is less rainfall in the park therefore vegetation will be thin which allows you to view. Trekking can be done either in the morning or evening.

Bird watching.

Every time in queen national park is bird watch, at any moment you can spot a bird, however we recommend that you go bird watching during June to September. These months have low rainfall, and there are plenty of food sources for the birds.  The kazinga channel is the best spotting area for bird watching during the boat cruiser and a variety of birds can be spotted with there.
