Detailed Safari Itinerary 9 Day Uganda Rwanda Gorilla & Chimps

Day 1: Arrival in Uganda

Upon your arrival at Entebbe international airport, you will be met by our Mum and Dad Uganda Tour representative who will greet you and later he will transfer you to the hotel for dinner and an overnight, however if you arrive at Entebbe in time, you will first enjoy a city tour

Day 2: Travel to Kibale Forest National Park

After your breakfast at the lodge, check-out from the lodge and start your journey to Kibale forest national. A lot will be enjoyed on this exhilarating journey including the scenery in Kabale with fantastic views along the way. Arrive at the park in time check in at the lodge, have dinner before you sleep you could opt for an evening forest walk where you will be able to see some bush babies (this is based on the accommodation facility you are using).return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay at.

Day 3: Chimpanzee tracking- Kibale Forest

On this day after a cup of tea or coffee you will get briefed about the dos and don’ts while with the chimps and then after you will follow the ranger guide deep into the forest to begin the search of chimps. Chimp trekking may go from 1-6 hour and once the chimps are met you are strictly allowed to spend one hour with them, it is an amazing experience. It will be amazing as you will watch them jump on different branches, watch them feed and play, you will also see nests in which they rest/sleep. Take enough photos but with your camera flash off. During the trek you will also have an opportunity to see other primates such as the White and Black colobus monkeys, Baboons, L’Hoest’s monkeys, Grey cheeked mangabeys among others.  You will after the trek go for lunch drive south for 3-4 hours into Queen Elizabeth National Park arriving in the late afternoon. Day 4: Game drive & Boat cruise – Queen Elizabeth Park

After breakfast at the lodge go for an early morning game drive through the park for an opportunity to see the early risen species such as the hyenas, wildebeest and many other  different wildlife species like waterbucks, lions, elephants, , giraffes, antelopes, buffaloes, leopards, warthogs, plus a variety of  bird species. You will also view different crater lakes in the park. After this 3 hours game drive, head back to the lodge for lunch and relaxation as you prepare for an afternoon 2 hour boat cruise along the Kazinga channel. The kazinga channel connects two lakes George and Edward and it’s a beautiful place to see more species of wildlife along the shores, it’s a home to over 560 hippos; also birds and other animals like crocodiles, elephants, antelopes among others will be seen. Return to the lodge and have dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Game drive in the Ishasha sector and travel to Bwindi

After breakfast at the lodge head to the Ishasha sector of the Queen Elizabeth National Park commonly known for housing the rare tree climbing lions lounging in the tree branches, not only tree climbing lions but still your eyes will sight on herds of Uganda kob, their favorite prey. You will also see many buffaloes, elephants as well as the rare shoebill. You will spend the rest of the day game driving in this part of the park. Day 6: Mountain Gorilla trekking safari

On this day after a cup of tea or coffee, the guide will take you to the park headquarters for a short briefing about the dos and don’ts while with the gorillas and also gets you allocated to the gorilla group to trek. Bwindi national park host the highest number of these gentle giants in the world almost a half of the remaining mountain gorillas live in this park. Not only gorillas but also the park is a home to other species like butterflies, plants, primates, mammals, butterflies, frogs, among others.

Gorilla trekking experience last between 1-8 hours since meeting them depends on where they spent their last night from and once they are met you are strictly allowed only one hour with the gorillas. Just in case some of you are not interested in tracking gorillas, you can go for a short guided forest walk or Village walk to the Batwa community. Retire at the lodge.

Day 7: Cross to Volcanoes National Park – Rwanda

On this day after breakfast, you will embark on the transfer from bwindi to Rwanda with a scenic drive through a beautiful part of the country often referred to as ‘the Switzerland of Africa’ because of its unique Mediterranean weather despite its location near the Equator. Arrive at the Uganda- Rwanda boarder (Gatuna), after finalizing with the border crossing requirements continue to Rwanda which is sometimes referred to as a land of a thousand hills to volcanoes national park arrive and check in at the lodge You will later in the afternoon be taken on a nature walk to the twin lakes or visit the Iby’ Iwachu Village to explore the Banyarwanda culture. You will return to your hotel for dinner and overnight

Day 8: Gorilla trekking and Lake Kivu

Early morning breakfast and then after report to the park headquarters to receive short briefings about gorilla trekking and also gets you allocated to the gorilla family. At 8:00am you will start to hike into lead by the ranger guide hike deep into the forest to have a chance to meet the endangered gorillas in their natural habitat.  Gorilla trekking is unpredictable as meeting them depends on where they last spent their night from. After reaching the gorillas, u will spend an hour with and then descend back to the lodge for lunch. You will return to your Hotel for lunch after which you will be driven to Lake Kivu 110km away for a boat cruise. This drive will be approximately 2 hours in duration.

Day 9: Kigali City Excursion

After a hearty breakfast, you will be driven back to Kigali and enjoy a Kigali city tour. You will visit the Gisozi Genocide Memorial Site, the Nyamata church, and the Presidential Palace Museum. After lunch en-route in Kigali, you will make a transfer to Kigali international airport to meet your departure flight back home.
