This Park is geographically located in the Western part of Uganda near Fort portal town in the Toro region. It covers a total area of 766km2 and gazetted in 1932 further established in 1993. Kibale National Park forming a continuous forest range with this very Park.

The Park is characterized by different ecosystems. Including tropical rain-forests, lowland and montane forests, Savannah and grasslands, shrubs, bogs, bamboo forested areas. And watery swampy areas of which these areas influence the high growth rate of different Wildlife species.

This Park includes a big wetland known as Bigodi Wetland. Which includes different plant species for instance  Papyrus, grass species, waterlogged areas, and different other species. This area is ranked to be a good habitat for different Kibale bird species. As it’s characterized by different feeding species most liked by birds.

All tourism activities in  kibale are done in Kanyanchu Wildlife center and all arrangements are conducted from here.

How to get there Kibale Forest National Park

Traveling from Kampala by road to Kibale Forest National Park in Western Uganda, Kampala-Mityana-Mubende-Fort portal highway is the best route of reaching this Park including en route stops overs in different major towns for buying some snacks, souvenirs, and more.

It’s even possible to connect from either bwindi impenetrable national park or Queen Elizabeth National Park direct to Kibale Forest National Park for a night stay but it’s a major requirement to be with a 4×4 Wheel drive Safari Jeep since connecting roads are not tarmacked characterized with mud during the rainy season.

What to see in Kibale.

When you talk about Kibale Forest National Park popularly known for its huge variety of Chimpanzee primates. Although recorded with other Wildlife species including twelve Primate Species listed above.

Besides Chimpanzee Primates other species within the Park include Primates like Blue monkeys, Red tailed monkeys, Black and White Colobus monkeys, Vervet, Mangabey, Baboons, Patas monkeys, L’Hoest monkeys, and more, Reptiles include snakes, geckos, chameleon and more, different insect species plus different bird species like African Jacanas, Night Jars, storks, pelicans and more. Activities done in Kibale.

The most prominent activities done in this grate park include Chimpanzee tracking.  Which usually involves moving in a group following the well-established trails heading to the Jungle in search of these primates very interested in meeting with them for interaction, behavior experiential and more. chimpanzee trekking done either in the morning, afternoon or in the evening. ounce chimpanzees are met, you are strictly allowed to stay with them for  period of 1 hours taking as many photos and videos with them.

Other activities done include Chimpanzee habituation experience and this is almost the same with chimpanzee tracking but the only difference is the time spent with these primates in the Jungles whereby for Chimpanzee tracking you are only allowed for one hour while with these primates and for habituation experience you are allowed half or full day in the presence of the chimpanzees in Kibale Forest while with these primates in the Jungles following their movements. Habituation is the process of slowly introduction chimpanzees to humans so that they become more comfortable with their presence.

Bigodi Walk is another exciting activity to be part of while in Kibale Forest National Park exposing you to different bird species and other wildlife species.

 Rich in biodiversity and scenic beauty, the Bigodi Wetlands Sanctuary is indeed a must visit while here. it is a 4,5km long walk, the walk will take you through this important wildlife corridor of and activity lasts for only 3hour with beautiful views of forest dwellers.
