Mostly known to be habiting huge varieties of different Primate species totaling to thirteen species in Kibale Forest National Park, it’s mostly liked by different tourists from different countries of the World because its evidenced great offering experienced on a visit to this Park particularly Wildlife.
This exciting Park includes the great Kibale Forest which is among the list of top forests in Uganda which provide habitat to different Wildlife species recorded in Uganda’s Biodiversity, that’s the main reason why Kibale Forest National Park is characterized by a wide appearance of different exciting species.
This Park is geographically located in the Western part of Uganda near Fort portal town in Toro region; it covers a total area of 766km2 and was gazetted in 1932 further established in 1993. Kibale National Park is near Queen Elizabeth National Park forming a continuous forest range with this very Park.
Kibale Forest National Park is characterized with different ecosystems including tropical rain-forests, lowland and montane forests, Savannah and grasslands, shrubs, bogs, bamboo forested areas, and watery swampy areas of which these areas influence high growth rate of different Wildlife species.
This Park includes a big wetland known as Bigodi Wetland which includes different plant species like Papyrus, grass species, water logged areas and different other species. This area is ranked to be a good habitat for different Kibale’s bird species as it’s characterized with different feeding species most liked by birds.
All tourism activities in Kibale Forest National Park start from Kanyanchu Wildlife center and all arrangements are conducted from here.
Traveling from Kampala by road to Kibale Forest National Park in Western Uganda, Kampala-Mityana-Mubende-Fort portal highway is the best route of reaching this Park including en route stops overs in different major towns for buying of some snacks, souvenirs and more.
It’s even possible to connect from either Bwindi Impenetrable National Park or Queen Elizabeth National Park direct to Kibale Forest National Park for a night stay but it’s a major requirement to be with a 4×4 Wheel drive Safari Jeep since connecting roads are not tarmacked characterized with mud during the rainy season.
When you talk about Kibale Forest National Park is popularly known for its huge variety of Chimpanzee primates although it’s recorded with other Wildlife species including twelve Primate Species.
Besides Chimpanzee Primates other species within the Park include Primates like Blue monkeys, Red tailed monkeys, Black and White Colobus monkeys, Vervet, Mangabey, Baboons, Patas monkeys, L’Hoest monkeys, and more, Reptiles include snakes, geckos, chameleon and more, different insect species plus different bird species like African Jacanas, Night Jars, storks, pelicans and more. Bird species in Kibale include endemic species and non-endemic species.
The most prominent activities done in Kibale Forest National Park include Chimpanzee tracking which usually involves moving in a group following the well-established trials heading to the Jungle in search of these primates very interested in meeting with them for interaction, behavior experiential and more.
Other activities done include Chimpanzee habituation experience and this is almost the same with chimpanzee tracking but the only difference is the time spent with these primates in the Jungles whereby for Chimpanzee tracking you are only allowed for one hour while with these primates and for habituation experience you are allowed for four hours while with these primates in the Jungles following their movements.
