This Park is geographically located in the Eastern part of Uganda along Uganda’s border with Kenya; this Park is bisected by Kenya- Uganda border with one part being on the Uganda side and the other part being on the Kenya side.
Part covered on the Uganda side is approximated to 1110 km2 of area where as the Kenyan covered part is approximated to 169 km2 of area.
Mountain Elgon National Park is popularly known for the existing physical feature known as Mountain Elgon although it also provides habitat to different Wildlife species recorded in Uganda’s biodiversity.
Mountain Elgon is characterised with montane forests, Savannah and grasslands, bamboo forested areas and shrubs.
How to get there?
Travelling from Kampala on a discoverable and experiential visit to Mountain Elgon National Park in the Eastern Uganda is usually done by road transport means as there is no any nearby airstrip to land if you are to go by air.
Travelling by road means using suitable 4×4 wheel drive Safari Jeep, Kampala- Jinja- Mbale highway is the only route of reaching this Park including the en route stopover in Mbaira forest for some exciting activities like Nature walks, Zip lining if interested, visiting other interested places within and nearby the forest
After the complete and exciting adventure in the amazing Mabira forest, continue with the journey cross the Nile Bridge for another stopover in Jinja town for some other activities if you may wish with these activities including visit to Jinja local market, boat cruise on the shores of river Nile, swimming and more.
After you will have lunch and continue with the journey up to the Park for check in at the lodge.
What to see in Mountain Elgon. Although it’s popularly known for its Mountain Elgon, this Park also provides habitat to different Wildlife species including Elephants, buffaloes, duikers, antelopes and forest monkeys like Black and White Colobus monkeys, Red tailed monkeys, Blue monkeys and more.
It’s recorded with over 144 bird species including Jackson’s francolin, eastern bronze napped pigeon, turacos, sunbirds and more. Other physical features with in the Park which attract tourists’ minds include caves, gorges, falls, calderas and more.
