Nkuringo gorilla family
This gorilla family was officially opened up for visitors in year 2004 its name its derived from the hill where the first group of gorillas were spotted from, it can be tracked from the Nkuringo Sector in the southern part of the park.
It comprises of almost 14 individuals these include Rwamutwe silverback the leader, tabu silverback, adult females include Faburah, Kwitonda, Kiiza, kuhirwa, Nderema juvenile are Owamani, Guma with three infants and Kamara the blackback.
Christmas gorilla family
This gorilla family is being headed by Christmas and it is trekked in Nkuringo sector situated in the southern side of Bwindi with 9 members. It got its name from their leader who was born on Christmas day 25/ December.
The establishment of this new gorilla family has increased on the number of trekkers in the Nkuringo sector, it is mostly liked to be visited during the month of December when Christmas is due to happen.
Bushaho gorilla family
This gorilla family it is established for only gorilla habituation process in Nkuringo sector of Bwindi Impenetrable its habituation started in 2012 has over 11 members being headed by Bahati the silver back who left the Nkuringo gorilla family.
Only 4 trekkers are allowed to go for this habituation process they spend much time with them up close led by armed rangers and tour guides.
The best time to visit Nkuringio Sector
The dry season of the year is the best timing for paying a visit to this gorilla trekking sector that typically happens in the months of June to September and from December to February and you can choose to self drive or go with a chauffeur .
Dry season is associated with less rainfall received, less fog, mist, and the trail heads are less muddy and slippery this period rewards guests with clear photography moments and there are high chances of sighting at these gorillas, bird species as well as sighting at the lush greenery vegetation species.
Another option is during the rainy season that usually happens in the months of late March to early May during this period most of the trailheads and roads are muddy and slippery so reaching to this sector it is somehow challenging.
